Gabe - Owner and Lead Technician

Hi, my name is Gabe, I'm the lead technician and owner of Teknyka Tech Support. I've been fixing computers for over 13 years now and I enjoy every minute of it! For me this isn’t just a hobby - it's a passion. I have two Associates Degrees in Technology and Network Administration and I've also got a degree from the Cisco Networking Academy and I am CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Security+ certified.

We have highly skilled technicians working at Teknyka Tech Support all of whom focus on helping our customers meet their technology needs. Our combined skills and certifications cover the whole spectrum of computing, from software to hardware, and from networking to web design. With our combined skills we can tackle any project that you may have, either at home or at your small business.

Behind the Name: Teknyka

Teknyka (sounds like "technical" without the L) is short for "technology" in the Russian language. I named my company Teknyka because my father, who was a great source of inspiration and support for me, used that word to describe the first computer our family ever owned. Since then "Teknyka" has been a great influence in my life.

I was 8 years old when my dad brought home our family’s first computer. It was a Packard Bell 486DX2, running Windows 3.11 with a 66Mhz processor. It only had 4MB of RAM and a 500MB Hard Drive — that's about 1/100th of the processing power of computers today!

I was amazed with the new technology and was soon hooked on learning everything I could about it. My father encouraged me in the process, he knew that computers would soon be a big part of our every day lives.

In grade school I had a wonderful teacher who taught me even more about computers and typing. He opened my eyes to the infinite amount of information available and that there is always help available if you need it. Computers became my hobby and my passion and that is why I continue to work on them and to support those in need.

From the Beginning: My Career Path and the Birth of Teknyka

In the 1990's I began building my own computers, fixing my friends computers, playing video games, and taking programming classes. In 1998 I joined a gaming company as a professional programmer. In the year 2000 I went to Fry's Electronics in Wilsonville and worked as a "cage monkey" (the person in charge of expensive computer parts secured in a cage) and then later as a returns technician. There I learned a lot about computer parts, their specifications, and how they work best together. Soon after I decided that I needed to learn even more, so I went to college and earned two Associates Degrees in Information Technology and Network Administration. In the process I also gained multiple tech industry certifications.

In 2005 I got hired at US Bank as an IT Generalist and Network Support Technician where I helped support over one thousand users at the US Bancorp Tower in Downtown Portland. I also supported the surrounding US Bank branches and worked on various projects all across the country.

My job at US Bank provided me with lots of learning opportunities where I honed my skills on software support, desktop support, printers, scanners, fax machines, telephone systems, network support, and server maintenance. I also worked on large, long term projects such mergers, acquisitions, and new branch installations. In the process I got a deep understanding of corporate strategies and the success you can have when you work on something that is carefully planned and executed. Success in my daily work required good communication, problem solving, and time management skills. Most importantly, it helped me build my customer service skills (you know, the kind "geeks" have a reputation for NOT having). My customers loved my work and my management praised me with great performance reviews. I quickly became one of the top performing technicians in our region.

Aside from having a good career, I always enjoyed helping others with their computer problems. I started dreaming of running my own computer support company. So in 2008 I established Teknyka Tech Support in response to a growing demand from family, friends, and even strangers for computer repair services. Our shop was built just south of Canby where it was designed and built from the ground up for technicians, by technicians, to be the best, most comfortable computer repair shop to work in.

By August of 2011 I had three part-time technicians working for me and our company had grown to support over 250 residential clients and 28 businesses. It was time to quit US Bank! With great excitement and trepidation (after all, I have 4 kids and a wife to support!) I put in my two weeks notice and am now running Teknyka Tech Support full time.

As of February 2012 we have grown to support over 500 residential customers and over 40 businesses. We have 3 computer technicians on staff ready to take all the work that comes our way. I'm very glad this business has grown so large, so quickly. I love the work I do, and I take great pleasure in providing quick, honest, high quality repair services.
