Ending Malwarebytes Trials
Malwarebytes has recently changed their business model to automatically start a trial of their premium service on it’s next update in its newest version. While we’d recommend getting their premium service, it certainly is not necessary and the free edition of the program works wonderfully. It’s also a little misleading and may make some of our customers think that Malwarebytes isn’t functioning properly any longer when indeed it still is.
Here are some instructions on how to stop that trial and continue using the free edition:
1. Open Malwarebytes
2. Go to Settings
3. Click on the My Account tab
4. Click on Deactivate Premium Trial
5. (Optional) Click on Application tab and switch “Automatically download and install application component updates” and “Notify me when full version updates are available” to Off.
Here’s the thing – unless you do the last step, the next time Malwarebytes updates you’ll have to do all the steps again as the trial gets reactivated. It’s annoying, but this program is still way too good for us to not recommend any longer. For now, keep Malwarebytes and use the free version.
