Computer Privacy Tips
Here are some tips for keeping your information private when using your computer:
- Be aware of the information you’re putting online. Try to put the minimum amount, many times your phone number isn’t necessary.
- Check reviews of unknown online stores before making your purchase. Resellerratings.com is a good site for this.
- Check your internet browser add-ons to make sure something didn’t sneak in that’s tracking your browsing habits.
- When installing programs, uncheck any extra programs that are trying to be added on. A common example is when updating Java, McAfee also tries to install. You can uncheck this and not have to worry about uninstalling it in the future.
- Just hang up on anyone calling and telling you that they detected a problem with your computer.
- Put a sticky note over your webcam when you’re not using it – don’t forget about the microphone too! You may have to deactivate the microphone within your operating system.
- Keep your anti-virus and operating system up to date.
- If you think you have a virus, run your anti-virus program. If it doesn’t fix the issue give us a call!
The internet can be a scary place but using caution and a little common sense will help you rest easier.
