Canby Telcom Improving Internet Services

Those who have Canby Telcom as their internet provider may notice some improvements. Canby Telcom has made an arrangement with Northwest Access Exchange (NWAX) with a direct connection to Netflix and an expanded connection to Google. The 10 Gbps (gigabit per seconds) connection will ease the congestion for those accessing those websites – Google (including YouTube) and Netflix actually take up 84 percent of peak internet time (8-11 P.M.) in Canby! According to Canby Telcom, it’s connection with NWAX is on par with the largest internet service providers in the state.

Another improvement is a deal with Akamai Technologies which helps with software patches, OS updates, and program updates for computers, tablets, and smart phones. When software companies release an update or patch, thousands of users bottleneck the servers days afterwards to download it. Canby Telcom’s servers download the updates and stores them on their own servers, meaning that there’s much less traffic going after the updates and thus a faster download. A recent example that you may have noticed is the Apple iOS 7 upgrade, which within seconds of it’s release Canby Telcom already had available to it’s customers within it’s own servers.
